SAC Songwriting & Blogging Challenge: Week 5

LYRICS

Do you want every penny I could find?
(No, you don’t, no, you don’t want me, no)
Do you want every second of my time?
(No, you don’t, no, you don’t want me, no)

And I beg for your presence (presence)
Even just for a second (second)
From the top of the mountain

(Chorus)
Where you sparkle on a pedestal
The highest praise
I avert my gaze
You’re a marvel on the pedestal
I’m the witness
You leave me speechless

Can you just come around and give me your time?
(But you don’t, but you don’t want me, no)
Can you just look at me eye to eye?
(But you don’t, but you don’t want me, no)

Oh, it’s getting so heavy (heavy)
This torch I carry (carry)
To bring you the light

(Chorus)

Why don’t you want me?
Am I unworthy?
Am I just one of many
Stuck in silly fantasy?
One day, you’ll miss me
Too late, you’ll see
My sensitivity, my creativity

(Chorus)
When I sparkle on a pedestal
The highest praise
I deserve the same as you
I’m a marvel on the pedestal
You’re the witness
I’m the greatest

Why don’t you want me?
Am I unworthy?
My sensitivity, my creativity
If only

Struggles on the Home Stretch

Almost there, almost there! It has been a capital « C » challenge to meet this week’s writing goal. Maybe it’s the warming weather, maybe it’s my first drinks in a very long time for St. Paddy’s…I am desperately sliding towards the deadline here with a cracked voice lol! Argh I will stick with this to the end!!

Continuing on the empowerment headspace I’m in, this song « Pedestal » is about my tendency to lift the object of my affection way up, and in the process diminishing my worth. This is a « Get yourself together, gurl! » moment: love myself, know my worth, I’m full of awesomeness, etc.

The references mentioned in the brief fall under darker, earthier indie-rock, so I started writing and production in that direction. Eventually, though, the pop-head in me gravitated towards…

« 2 Hearts » by Kylie

« Wings » by Little Mix

I wish I had more time for my voice to recover from the weekend! I am not crazy about my vocals on the original demo (I re-sung it in the version above). Whether or not « Pedestal » lands close enough to what the mentors and Jordan are looking for, I am actually very happy and proud of the song itself, and I’m definitely fully producing it in the future.
